Our Programs

More Than a Festival. A Platform for Growth, Recognition, and Connection.

From the discovery of emerging talent to the shared experience of an international stage, WIAF connects artistic expression with education, leadership, and cultural exchange.

Our programs create opportunities for individuals and institutions to perform, learn, collaborate, and contribute to a more connected world.

Annual Production

You Bring the Arts. We Build the Stage. Annual Production is a curated, non-competitive performance platform for arts schools, studios, academies, and performing arts organizations. Bringing together dance, vocal and instrumental music, theatre, musical theatre, circus arts, magic, and other live performance disciplines, the program creates a shared stage for diverse artistic traditions and creative expression. Participating organizations are more than performers. They are artistic contributors who bring their own identities, traditions, and perspectives into a collective production. Through collaboration across disciplines and cultures, we use the performing arts to foster understanding, dialogue, and international connection.

Capital Talent Awards

Discover Talent. Celebrate Excellence. Recognize Potential. Capital Talent Awards is an international, multidisciplinary competition designed to recognize emerging talent through structured artistic evaluation and professional adjudication. Beyond rankings, the competition values artistic growth, originality, discipline, and potential. Depending on the category and official award terms, recognition may include cash awards, scholarship opportunities, and distinctions from accomplished adjudicators. We believe meaningful recognition should do more than celebrate an achievement. It should encourage the next stage of an artist’s journey.

Capital Talent Awards

International Exchange

Where Arts Become a Bridge Between Cultures. WIAF International Exchange welcomes students and emerging artists from around the world to experience the United States through arts, culture, education, and meaningful engagement with local communities. Participants may take part in performances, competitions, masterclasses, collaborative activities with American students, and cultural celebrations. Beyond the stage, curated educational experiences introduce participants to American history, civic institutions, cultural traditions, and contemporary society.

International Exchange

Where Arts Become a Bridge Between Cultures. Global Elite Leadership Institute

Preparing Young Leaders for an AI-Enabled, Interconnected World WIAF’s signature leadership initiative expands arts education by connecting artistic practice with interdisciplinary learning, leadership, and social contribution. Through research, independent projects, writing, and presentations, participants explore the intersections of the arts with international relations, cultural diplomacy, public policy, business, science, and the humanities—discovering new academic and professional possibilities. Based in Washington, D.C., the Institute encourages young people to see the arts not only as a discipline to master, but as a lens for understanding the world and shaping its future.

Global Elite Leadership Institute

Beyond the Stage: Learn, Lead, Connect, and Celebrate.

At WIAF, artistic development is part of a broader journey. Our events bring artists, educators, students, and cultural communities together through mentorship, leadership learning, shared experiences, and celebration.

Masterclasses

Learn from Artists. Grow Through Practice.

Led by invited artists, adjudicators, and artistic directors, WIAF masterclasses offer focused learning experiences across multiple artistic disciplines.

Depending on the program, participants may explore technique, interpretation, performance, artistic development, and portfolio preparation. Individual coaching and one-to-one portfolio guidance may also be offered through separately arranged sessions, subject to faculty availability.

Workshops

Ideas, Dialogue, and Real-World Perspectives.

WIAF workshops offer focused opportunities to explore leadership, cultural understanding, international affairs, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Sessions may feature invited scholars, university faculty, cultural professionals, policy experts, and other practitioners whose work connects the arts with broader social and global issues.

Through discussion and applied activities, participants are encouraged to question assumptions, exchange perspectives, and connect new ideas with their own experiences.

Leadership and Cultural Diplomacy Learning

Develop Perspective. Build Confidence. Lead Across Cultures.

The WIAF Leadership and Cultural Diplomacy Learning is an immersive learning experience centered on cultural diplomacy, cross-cultural understanding, global affairs, and leadership.

Through guided instruction, discussion, research activities, and selected educational visits or briefings, participants explore how culture shapes relationships between people, communities, and nations.

The program culminates in a presentation, research project, or written reflection that allows participants to demonstrate what they have learned and receive recognition for completing the program requirements.

Black-Tie Gala

An Evening of Art, Culture, and Global Connection.

Planned for July 4 in Washington, D.C., the WIAF closing celebration brings together invited artists, educators, cultural representatives, community leaders, institutional partners, and sponsors.

The Black-Tie Gala is envisioned as an evening of artistic presentation, recognition, and meaningful conversation—celebrating the people and partnerships that make international cultural exchange possible.

As the closing experience of the festival, it reflects WIAF’s commitment to connecting artistic excellence with cultural understanding and shared civic life.

From artistic discovery to performance, recognition, and international connection.

The 2027 program is planned as a journey that brings artists and institutions together through artistic review, rehearsals, competition, educational experiences, and celebration.

November 9, 2026 • Submissions begin

Annual Production group submissions: November 9, 2026–April 15, 2027. Capital Talent Awards online preliminary: November 9, 2026–April 30, 2027.

April–June 2027 • Selection & preparation

Annual Production artistic review and co-creation: April–May. Awards finalist notifications: by May 15. Invited finalist registration: May 1–June 15.

June 26–July 3, 2027 • On stage

Annual Production rehearsals: June 26–28; technical and dress rehearsal: June 29; performance: June 30. Capital Talent Awards live final: July 1–3 in Washington, DC.

July 4, 2027 • Festival experiences

Dance Masterclass, Cultural Understanding & Cultural Diplomacy Workshop and Black-Tie Gala. Eligibility varies; venues, faculty, guests and fees remain to be confirmed.
