Annual Production

You Bring the Arts. We Build the Stage.

A Curated, Multidisciplinary Performance Platform in Washington, D.C.

Your students bring the talent. Your institution brings the artistic vision. Together, we create something greater than a series of individual performances.

WIAF Annual Production brings together selected works from dance, vocal and instrumental music, theatre, musical theatre, circus arts, magic, and other performing arts disciplines in a professionally coordinated stage production.

Through artistic selection, creative adaptation, collaborative rehearsal, and integrated stage production, participating organizations become contributors to a shared artistic experience—one that celebrates artistic excellence, cultural diversity, and the power of collaboration.

Overview

One Stage. Many Artistic Voices. One Shared Experience.

Annual Production is a curated, non-competitive performing arts production designed for arts schools, studios, academies, and youth performing arts organizations.

Rather than presenting independent acts one after another without an overarching artistic framework, WIAF brings selected works into a thoughtfully coordinated production shaped by artistic direction, staging, pacing, transitions, and the overall audience experience.

Each participating institution contributes its own artistic identity, repertoire, and cultural perspective. Through an integrated production process, these individual contributions become part of a larger artistic narrative.

The result is more than a performance opportunity. It is a collaborative process through which young artists, teachers, and institutions participate in the creation of a shared stage experience.

A Platform For Artistic Collaboration

Annual Production welcomes a wide range of performing arts disciplines, creating opportunities for different artistic traditions and forms of expression to exist within one production.

A Collaborative Creative Process

Selected works are reviewed and incorporated into the overall production framework. Through artistic adaptation and coordinated rehearsal, the production team works to create continuity, balance, and a cohesive audience experience.

An International-facing Stage

Based in Washington, D.C., WIAF creates a setting where participating organizations can present their artistic identities within a broader cultural and international context.

Differentiators

Artistic selection and collaboration shape a shared production, rather than a competition. More Than a Performance. An Opportunity to Grow.

ARTISTICALLY SELECTED

Selected Through Artistic Review.

Each submission is considered through an artistic selection process led by the designated artistic leadership and review team.

Selection is based on the program's artistic direction, production requirements, suitability, and overall composition. The objective is to build a balanced, multidisciplinary production in which each selected work contributes to the larger experience.

ARTISTICALLY DEVELOPED

From an Individual Work to a Cohesive Production.

Selected works enter an artistic review and adaptation process designed to support the overall production.

This may involve refining performance timing, transitions, staging, entrances and exits, spatial arrangements, and integration with the broader production sequence.

Through coordinated rehearsals and communication with participating organizations, individual works are prepared to function as part of a unified stage experience.

PROFESSIONALLY PRODUCED

A Complete Stage Experience.

Participants experience the preparation and coordination involved in a professionally managed theater production, including technical planning, stage lighting, sound coordination, rehearsal scheduling, backstage organization, and dress rehearsal.

These production elements help students and educators understand how artistic ideas are translated into a coordinated live performance.

INSTITUTIONALLY RECOGNIZED

Share Your Institution's Artistic Identity.

Annual Production provides participating organizations with an opportunity to present their artistic work to a broader audience.

For schools and studios, participation can help communicate their educational philosophy, artistic approach, and commitment to student development.

The production also creates a setting for institutions to connect with other educators, arts professionals, families, communities, and potential collaborators.

NON-COMPETITIVE BY DESIGN

Collaboration Over Rankings.

Annual Production is a non-competitive performance platform. Its purpose is not to rank participating institutions against one another, but to bring selected works together through artistic collaboration and shared presentation.

Students can focus on artistic expression, ensemble awareness, cultural understanding, and the collective achievement of a complete production.

EDUCATIONAL VALUE

Develop Artists. Inspire Educators. Expand Possibilities.

The production process allows students and teachers to engage with dimensions of performance beyond classroom training, including artistic interpretation, stage awareness, collaboration, adaptability, rehearsal discipline, and production coordination.

Students learn to understand their own work in relation to a larger artistic context. Teachers and participating institutions gain experience in collaborative production processes and exposure to different artistic approaches.

These experiences complement ongoing arts education and encourage a broader understanding of artistic practice.
