Events
More Than Events. Opportunities to Learn, Connect, and Engage with the World.
At Washington International Arts Festival (WIAF), events are designed to bring people together through artistic excellence, cultural understanding, and meaningful exchange.
From specialized masterclasses and interdisciplinary workshops to our Black-Tie Gala, each experience creates opportunities for artists, students, educators, and cultural leaders to learn from one another, explore new perspectives, and build connections across communities and borders.

Masterclasses
Learn from Artists. Expand Your Perspective. Refine Your Craft.
A masterclass is more than a class. It is an opportunity to learn directly from experienced artists and educators, explore different approaches to artistic practice, and encounter new perspectives on performance and expression.
WIAF masterclasses are designed to complement participants’ existing artistic training through focused learning experiences and meaningful engagement with the professional arts community.
What Makes a WIAF Masterclass Meaningful?
Artistic Development
Explore movement, technique, interpretation, performance quality, and artistic expression through focused instruction.
Professional Perspectives
Learn how experienced artists approach their craft, develop their artistic identity, and communicate ideas through performance.
Cross-Cultural Exchange
Encounter different artistic traditions, creative methods, and cultural perspectives through shared learning.
Inspiration Beyond the Classroom
Connect artistic practice with curiosity, discipline, collaboration, and a broader understanding of the arts.
Who Can Participate?
Masterclasses may be designed for young performers, emerging artists, dance and music students, and other participants, depending on the individual program.
Each masterclass will have its own eligibility requirements, content, instructor information, and registration details.

Workshops
Go Beyond Artistic Practice. Explore Ideas That Shape Our World.
Art helps us express who we are. It can also help us explore how other people see the world.
WIAF workshops create space for participants to examine the connections between arts, culture, identity, communication, leadership, and global affairs. Through guided learning and dialogue, participants are encouraged to ask questions, consider different perspectives, and connect their artistic experiences with the wider world.
More Than a Traditional Workshop
Cultural Understanding
Explore how history, values, traditions, and lived experiences influence the ways people communicate and interpret the world.
Cross-Cultural Communication
Develop the ability to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and communicate respectfully across differences.
Cultural Diplomacy
Examine how arts and cultural exchange can create opportunities for dialogue, strengthen mutual understanding, and support cooperation between communities.
Leadership and Social Contribution
Consider how creativity, cultural awareness, and individual responsibility can contribute to communities and society.
Understanding Does Not Require Agreement.
WIAF believes that meaningful cultural exchange does not require everyone to share the same beliefs or perspectives. It begins with the willingness to listen, understand context, communicate with respect, and explore possibilities for cooperation.
Our workshops encourage participants to approach differences with curiosity rather than assumptions and to consider how artistic expression can contribute to a more connected world.

Black-Tie Gala

An Evening of Art, Connection, and Global Possibility.
The WIAF Black-Tie Gala is envisioned as a signature gathering that brings together artists, educators, cultural leaders, institutional representatives, business professionals, families, and supporters of international arts and cultural exchange.
More than a celebratory evening, the Gala creates a setting for people from different disciplines and backgrounds to connect, recognize artistic achievement, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities for future collaboration.
An Evening with Purpose
Celebrate Artistic Achievement
Recognize the creativity, dedication, and contributions of artists and young talent within the WIAF community.
Build Meaningful Connections
Bring together individuals and organizations working across arts, education, culture, and international engagement.
Encourage Cross-Cultural Dialogue
Create opportunities for people with different experiences and perspectives to connect through a shared appreciation of the arts.
Inspire Future Collaboration
Open conversations around educational opportunities, cultural exchange, mentorship, partnerships, and community engagement.
A Shared Vision for the Future
WIAF seeks to build a community in which artistic achievement becomes a starting point for deeper relationships, broader perspectives, and meaningful cooperation.
The Black-Tie Gala reflects this vision by connecting the people, ideas, and institutions that can help advance arts, culture, and education across borders.
